Turkey Meatballs with Sauce

Meatballs are a staple in every family worldwide and always popular with the kids… Finally you can have a Japanese variation!

Ingredients (for 2)

  • 2 cups ground turkey
  • 1 tbsp mirin
  • 1 egg
  • 4 tbsp wheat flour
  • 1 tbsp white sugar
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame seeds
  • 1 cup of water

Directions

  • Take a deep saucepan and bring the water to a boil
  • In the meantime, in a large bowl beat the eggs and stir in 1/3 of the soy sauce, 1/3 of sugar and wheat flour
  • Add the ground turkey (or chicken) and mix well to combine
  • Once you have worked the mixture into a well blended meatball, shape it into small balls with your hands
  • Drop the meatballs into the boiling water and cook for 2-3 minutes
  • Then add the remaining sugar, soy sauce and mirin and keep cooking for 5-7 minutes at medium heat, covered with a lid
  • When the water has reduced into a nice thick sauce, transfer the meatballs in the pan, coat them well with their juices and stir fry for a couple of minutes
  • Arrange on your serving plate and sprinkle with sesame seeds

Tips from the Chef

  • You can use ground chicken or prepare your preferred variety of ground meat at home
  • Do not shape the meatballs too big or they will not cook through
