A traditional Greek recipe with many potential variations, we tried to keep it simple and to stick to the original one!
Ingredients (for 2)
- 1 cup ground beef (about 200 gr or 7 oz)
- 1 egg
- 2 slices sandwich bread
- 1 tbsp mint
- 1 tbsp anise liquor
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tbsp wheat flour
- 4 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 onion
- 1 garlic clove
- 1 tsp oregano
- salt & black pepper
Directions
- Dice the bread in small cubes, put it in a bowl and soak it with the anise liquor
- Boil the egg in hot water (it will take about 7 minutes)
- In a small sauce pan sauté in olive oil the minced garlic and diced onions; when translucent add them to the bowl
- Add the ground beef to the bowl, the finely chopped mint, oregano and the egg coarsely chopped; season with salt and pepper
- Mix well all ingredients with a spoon or fork
- Shape the meat into small balls with your hands and dust with some wheat flour
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet and sauté the meatballs until well browned on all sides (for about 10 minutes at medium heat)
- Arrange the Keftedes on a serving plate and serve hot!
