Chili con Carne

Classic Mexican recipe, really easy and fun to cook. Try it also in a tortilla with chopped tomatoes, salad, cheese and guacamole for a great burrito!

Ingredients (for 2)

  • 2 cups ground beef
  • 1 cup kidney beans
  • 1/2 bell pepper
  • 1/2 can tomato sauce
  • 1/4 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 1/3 jalapeno pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • salt & black pepper

Directions

  • Heat the oil in a large frying pan and gently brown the onion and the garlic (minced) for a couple of minutes
  • Add the ground beef, kidney beans (use canned beans for convenience, drained) and a pinch of salt and cook at medium heat for 7-8 minutes, stirring frequently
  • In the meantime, chop and deseed the bell peppers and the jalapeños
  • Add the tomato sauce, the bell peppers and the ground cumin seeds and simmer (covered) at very low heat for another 15 minutes, stirring from time to time
  • Add the jalapeño peppers, ground black pepper and chili powder (or chopped fresh chilies) to your personal taste and serve smoking hot!

Best Served With

Long grain rice or sour cream

Tips from the Chef

Use paprika instead of chili powder for a milder taste
