Apple Ciambella

Apple pies are among the most popular pastries worldwide. In this Italian version, apples are placed in the middle of the cake mixture (rather than on top) and remain soft and juicy…

Ingredients (for 2)

  • 1 apple
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cube yeast
  • 1 tbsp powdered sugar

Directions

  • Peel and slice the apples (remove kernel)
  • Place in a bowl and soak in orange juice and 1/3 of the sugar
  • Preheat the oven to 350 °F (170 °C)
  • Whisk the egg with the sugar and butter until fluffy (use a kitchen mixer for best results)
  • Add the milk and vegetable oil in small batches and continue to whisk
  • Add flour and yeast in batches and continue to whisk
  • Add 1/3 of marinated apples and stir to combine
  • Take a round shaped baking pan and grease with some oil (or butter) all sides to avoid sticking
  • Pour 1/2 of the remaining apples in the pan
  • Pour 2/3 of the mixture, then add the remaining apples and marinade and finish with the mixture
  • Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes
  • Remove from the oven and let cool for at least 1 hour
  • Dust with powdered sugar just before serving
